Social Software
I'm really enjoying the workshops I'm doing on social software for the Libraries. Everyone seems to get something from them, even the people who were already familiar with a lot of the sites. I'm learning, too.

Where has the summer gone?
What a difference a year makes. After being worn out by hurricanes the last two summers, the relative peace of this one has caused time to fly by. I know there's still over three months to sweat (literally, in Tallahassee), but maybe we'll dodge the bullet after all.

Final World Cup Thoughts
I watched most of the final two matches and enjoyed them, in spite of The Incident in the final. The Italians are great actors, but they did win, so perhaps Team USA should take a few lessons. On to South Africa!

Dog Days
Just returned from a long holiday weekend at Dog Island. The weather, water, and bugs were all very cooperative. I'd stay out there all summer if it were always so nice. I just hope my next trip doesn't involve storm shutters.

Bye-bye USA soccer
With Team USA's loss to Ghana, I must find another team to root for. I'm leaning toward the Socceroos of Australia or possibly the Dutch. Looking forward to the next round!

Sinkholin'
We went to Cherokee Sink this afternoon to cool off. It still blows my mind how different it is from the way it used to be before it became part of Wakulla Springs park. I'm glad it's being conserved, though.

We wuz robbed!
Okay, so I might post about sports occasionally, too.
USA vs. Italy. Now, anyone who thinks the USA DIDN'T win that match, please sit down. You're a loser.
Unbelievable.
Kasey Keller was awesome, though.

Hello world part deux
I somehow forgot to mention that I plan to post on whatever technology issues strike my fancy. As a longtime Mac owner and Computer Science degree holder, I have plenty of opinions on the subject! My current menagerie consists of Bilbo (iMac G4, aka "iBreast"), Frodo (iBook G4), and Gracie (iBook SE). Gracie has retired to the seashore, where her slower pace is well suited to the island lifestyle. I have a Dell OptiPlex 280 at work; the library world tends to be Mac-averse for reasons that still elude me. In addition, I worked for several years in user support for an academic computing center and had various Sun desktop systems to play with and administer. So, I have "seen it all" and know that each platform has its strengths and weaknesses. I just happen to think Macs are the coolest. :)

I'm somewhat famous
Check me out at the SLA 2006 Conference Blog. I'm fourth from the front on the left side.
Hello world
I hope to post on topics of interest to librarians, genealogists, cat lovers, and other assorted weirdos.
